Since this piece is supposed to be shorter, I am doing a piece with very different content from what I usually do. It is going to be about Fortnight and my brother's intense addiction.
My goals from the last critique are craftsmanship, which is self-imposed and to create a series of what I did last project. I definitely want to make it a series, but not just this time.
To reach my craftsmanship goals, I brought paintbrushes and paint from home because I am much more comfortable using them, so hopefully my comfortability will help with my craftsmanship issues of the past. I think this painting is going well so far, I am happy with my colors and overall vibe of the piece

Basic Info:

Link to her Website:  https://www.crappanther.com/
From Oklahoma City, OK, Crap Panther, or Carrie South, is a self-taught illustrator, tattoo apprentice, and co-owner of the Immortal Tattoo Shop. She is the mother of two children who greatly influence her artistic process and wife to a well accomplished tattoo Artist Frank Ready. She is a very illusive woman and likes to keep her life private, even refusing to show her face on both Instagram and her website, so I
Working in her studio that is in the " eye of the hurricane," with her expressive ink-stained desk surrounded by children's toys, Carrie South goes the by professional name Crap Panther. She loves exploring more dark subject matter such as mortality, reality, and organic texture. She often draws carcasses of animals with their guts showing often in reaction to the processes of nature for instance the Salmon run which was the focus of her piece "En Route Mortality"(depicted below). In 2018, she started an explorative series attempting to depict the twelve Zodiac signs as she has envisioned them based on personal experience and research.
To combat artist block, that plagues us all, South uses video games as a way to escape the confines of her mind: separating her self from life and giving her a chance to "get lost a little bit."

"'Nobody cares. Try harder.' Every time I finish a piece I tell myself that I can do better. It gives me a reason to keep creating. I hope to never make something that I am 100% satisfied with."- Crap Panther on the best advice she has ever received

Reflection:

I love Crap Panther's work. I have been following it for quite some time now. I was drawn in by her gorgeous Zodiac prints but I got hooked on all of her gore and beautiful depictions of carnage. Her mastery of watercolor and ink bring her pieces alive, producing such emotion in both her artwork and her viewers. The unwavering desire to improve that possesses her is inspiring. I really like her deep interest in mortality; I have addressed that theme in previous works, with much more limited gore, but would love to incorporate more of that into my own work.
I unfortunately couldn't find a CV for South as she is a very private person, but, since I really have no interest what-so-ever in pursuing art as a carrier, I figured that reflecting on an artist that I really admire and inspires me would be better than on one who has a CV that I don't love as much.
